Michael Irwin Fontes, 81, of Volcano died July 25 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Olaa, he was a retired heavy equipment operator at Hawaii Volcano National Park. Visitation 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section. Survived by children, April Fontes of Arizona, Randall Fontes, Amber Fontes and Benjamin Fontes of Hawaii, Michael I. LaVerne Lani Howard, 69, of Waimea died June 7 at her Puukapu Homesteads home. Born in Honolulu, she was retired from HPM Building Supply in Waimea. Theodore Lai Sr., 88, of Kona died Aug. 6 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, he was a roofer, vegetable and fruit farmer and U.S. Army veteran. Robert “Bob” Wetmore Northrop, 71, of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates died Aug. 1 at Ka‘u Hospital.
